Angus Cloud was just 25 years old when he died in his family home on July 31. Media outlets were quick to report that he was mourning the death of his father at the time, who passed away on May 18 after a short battle with stage 4 mesothelioma (cancer) – he was laid to rest in Ireland a week before Angus died.
Angus was devastated after his father died and several reports suggested that he was struggling through the grieving process – even having suicidal thoughts at times. In an effort to work through his own grief and help his family work through theirs, he recently moved back in with his mother in their family home.
After news of Angus’ passing went viral, many outlets reported that he died of a potential suicide – there was certainly reason to believe it, but nothing had been confirmed and a cause of death wasn’t revealed. Now, less than one week after Angus’ death, his mother – Lisa Cloud McLaughlin – is speaking out.

“Friends, I want you all to know I appreciate your love for my family at this shattered time. I also want you to know that although my son was in deep grief about his father’s untimely death from mesothelioma, his last day was a joyful one,” she wrote in a Facebook post on August 4 – five days after her son’s death.
She goes on to refute reports of a potential suicide and claimed that ‘he did not intend to end his life’ – though she hinted at the possibility of an overdose. “We may find out that he overdosed accidentally and tragically, but it’s abundantly clear that he did not intend to check out of this world,” she wrote in the post.
According to his mother, Angus Cloud was ‘reorganizing his room’ and settling into their family home with the intent of helping his mother and sisters through the grieving process – emotionally and financially. She hugged her son and said she loved him before he fell asleep on his desk – never to wake up again.
She also confirmed that his creative drive never left in the wake of his father’s death and he was actually working on an art project at the time of his death. “He put his head on the desk where he was working on art project’s, fell asleep and didn’t wake up,” she wrote – further adding to the tragedy that followed.
Angus Cloud Filled His World With ‘Creativity and Love’
Lisa Cloud was quick to emphasize that her son, Angus Cloud, gave and received ‘so much love and support to and from his tribe’ and, while social media posts were suggesting he killed himself intentionally, she wanted everyone to know ‘that is not the case’ and he wasn’t yet ready to check out of this world.
She also praised his work in Euphoria, which she described as a ‘lightning rod for his generation’ that ‘opened up a conversation about compassion, loyalty, acceptance, and love.’ Angus Cloud played Fezco in the popular teen drama series – a role that officially put him on the map and kickstarted his career.
To conclude her Facebook post, Lisa Cloud alluded to a head injury Angus had suffered nearly a decade ago after falling into a construction pit and cracking his skull – he had previously credited his mother with saving his life because he initially didn’t want to go to the doctor. Luckily at her recommendation, he did.
