In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, which was published on Thursday (September 14), David Foster and Katharine McPhee were asked about the death of their son’s nanny, Yadira Calito – who passed away after a fatal traffic collision on August 9. They responded, but kept that response short.
“I just want to send my condolences. I know how close we all are to our caregivers – are you doing alright, how are you?” ET reporter Kevin Frazier said during the interview. “It’s been tough for her. Yeah, it’s been tough. She’s managing,” David Foster said – referring to his wife, who thanked Frazier for his thoughts.
Calito’s death resulted in Katharine McPhee having to miss the final two shows of her David Foster & Friends Asia Tour 2023 – both shows were scheduled to take place at the Sentul International Convention Centre in Jakarta, Indonesia. At the time, she shared that her absence was due to a ‘family emergency.’

About one week after the incident happened, the Los Angeles Police Department provided details of Yadira Calito’s horrific and tragic death. The 55-year-old was at the Hamer Toyota dealership service center in Mission Hills, California when she was struck by a Toyota RAV4 that crashed into the building.
While the driver – an 84-year-old woman who accidentally accelerated her vehicle into the building – was uninjured, two employees (a 23-year-old and 35-year-old) suffered non-life-threatening injuries and Calito suffered fatal injuries. They were all transported to a nearby hospital, where Calito was pronounced dead.
Just two weeks later, Katharine McPhee and David Foster took to the stage for the first time since the tragedy. They performed at a private event in Ravello, Italy, and played songs by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons with fellow singer, Erich Bergen – McPhee was singing, while Foster was on the piano.
McPhee and Foster originally met in 2006, but it wasn’t until 2017 that their relationship turned romantic. They got engaged in June 2018 and tied the knot in June 2019. Two years later, they welcomed their first child together – a son named Rennie David, who is now 2 years old (Calito was Rennie’s beloved nanny).
David Foster and Katharine McPhee Working on Christmas Album
While David Foster and Katharine McPhee continue to grieve and mourn the loss of their nanny, they’ve returned to work and are currently in the process of recording a continuation of their popular Christmas Songs album. The original album featured seven songs and received a good response from their fans.
“We got a nice response from the first seven songs so we thought, ‘Oh, people are kinda digging this,” Foster said in his interview with ET – adding that he enjoys doing something unique with each song. “I could do it probably thee or four different ways without really thinking about it,” he says of his talent.
McPhee says that it made sense to ‘just complete the whole thing’ with a second volume. “A couple of my girlfriends are like, ‘You’re doing another Christmas album?’ I’m like, ‘No, this is a completion of the first Christmas album,'” she said – adding that she enjoys getting the chance to work with her husband.

“But for me, my favorite part is obviously being in the recording booth when he’s recording my vocals. I don’t see anybody, but I just hear his voice and he’s always been the best to record vocals,” she says of working alongside David Foster. Their first single of Volume Two – ‘Amazing Grace’ – will be out Oct. 20.
