Leah Messer, one of the stars of the Teen Mom franchise, is admitting she was very uneducated the first time she had sex. She doesn’t want that for her three daughters.
During the latest episode of MTV’s Teen Mom 2, Messer started talking about the age she was when she lost her virginity after realizing her oldest daughters, twins Aliannah and Aleeah, are now 10 years old. The mom said she wants her daughters to know why they shouldn’t follow in her footsteps.

“I was 13 the first time I had sex. The girls are 10. Granted, I did not get pregnant until later. No, hell no, I’m not saying that. I’m saying it’s confusing. I didn’t know anything! I didn’t know anything,” Messer recalled of her first time. And as a result, Messer said she wants her daughters to know everything before deciding whether or not they are ready to have sex.
“I want them to know everything and know what happens. Not just, ‘I don’t want to be like you, mom.’ Okay, but why?” However, as her friend Kylie pointed out, while she agrees it’s important for the girls to be educated, she doesn’t think the girls will go down the same path as Leah.
“But I think your atmosphere growing up was way different than their atmosphere. Yours was obviously not that great, so I don’t think that that’s something you have to worry about. But you’re right you have to let them know about things and be honest with them.”
The mom of three went on to share how proud she is of her girls and even though they are twins, “they have their own identity. They are completely different. So it’s just cool to see them grow into little people.”
And while she doesn’t want her girls 16 and pregnant, she also wouldn’t call it a mistake. “What do you mean I’ve made some big bad mistakes? Getting pregnant at 17 wasn’t a mistake, it was a challenge. I didn’t know what the heck I was doing, but I made it work and look at us now.”
